Description

We live in a world marred by economic inequality, political polarization and ecological threats leaving many of its citizens to wonder, is humanity progressing? Steven Pinker suggests we draw on the Enlightenment ideals of reason, science, humanism and progress to move us forward. Paul Krugman's work has also focused upon the contemporary challenges of inequality and volatility. When does the conscience of a liberal conflict with Enlightenment ideals and when do they harmonize? Join us for a bracing conversation about the future of our world.

For the next Janus Lecture, “Is Humanity Progressing?”, Paul Krugman, professor of economics and international affairs, Princeton University, Centenary Professor, London School of Economics, Nobel Prize Winner, and Op-Ed Columnist for The New York Times, joined with Steven Pinker, Johnstone Family Professor in the Department of Psychology, Harvard University, will both speak on Tuesday, April 2 at 5:30 p.m.

The event is sponsored by Brown University's Political Theory Project and welcome feedback from their audiences and fellow members of the Brown community. If you have a recommendation or idea for a future topic for the Janus Forum Lecture Series or a set of potential invited speakers please contact us via email at ptp@brown.edu .
